Well, now I'll be hunting bear, too!
« on: June 28, 2021, 08:23:04 PM »
Checked my cam in Minot Peak again, got eyes on this little bear! I didn't have time - or energy, thanks to the heat! - to do much tracking, but he ended up headed up into the woods in the middle of that shot, so I'll be scouting more of that when I have time.

Have seen some tracks and have proof he's around, but haven't seen any scat or other signs, yet. Anything else I should be looking for? Looks like he was out there around 5am or so. I hear berry patches will be popular, anything else?

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement so far, this is a great group of folks!
God, family and country.

all about food with bears and they are not married to the areas you see them in.

:yeah: What he said. Bears will move surprisingly large distances to find the food they want. When it opens in August they will generally be timbered up and working creek bottoms where there are salmon berries, huckleberries, etc... that are ripening already. Clear cuts and timber edges are good places to watch for them as well. As the season progresses they will follow the food, generally up in elevation but it totally depends on your location. If you can find old logging roads with lots of blackberries growing along them, that would be a great place to start and spend time prowling.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

In the Minot Peak area I would think Salal berries would be a good place to look as well (once they ripen)
